Austria is being represented at the 2025 EBSA European Masters Championships, held from October 4–9 in Golem, Albania, by Clausdieter Franschitz and championship debutant Peyman Chitsaz.
After the conclusion of the first of two events, the Austrian contingent can look back on a mixed start: one player advancing to the knockout rounds, the other exiting after the group stage. Clausdieter Franschitz secured second place in his group with two victories, earning a spot in the knockout stage. Peyman Chitsaz, despite taking one frame, was unable to record a match win and fell short of qualification.
In the intermediate knockout round, Franschitz faced France’s Jean-Philippe Margontier. The experienced Austrian was unable to maintain his strong group-stage form and was defeated 0-3. Nevertheless, a 33rd-place finish, with two wins from four matches, represents a solid performance at this level.
The team competition begins today, October 7, and will be played exclusively in the Scotch Doubles format. Once again, Austria will be represented by Chitsaz and Franschitz. In the group stage, Team Austria is set to face Ireland 1 (10 a.m.) and Hungary (4 p.m.), before taking on Wales 1 tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a decisive Group C matchup.
The Austrian Billiards and Snooker Association (ÖSBV) is providing regular updates on its Facebook and Instagram channels.
From October 11, Thomas Janzso and Paul Schopf will join the action, competing in the Main Division events — Shoot-Out, 6 Reds, and Team formats. Reigning 6-Reds European Champion Florian Nüßle will not be participating this year, as he is now competing full-time on the World Snooker Tour and will be taking part in the Scottish Open qualifying rounds at the same time.
